Fireflies, which are at their peak right now, are the opposite of sedate, steady creatures like cows --- and not just because cows have no wings. And do have hooves. Big clompy hooves. And cows don't glow.
But what I meant was: there are no years of placid cud-chewing for a firefly. Despite the glow, their lives are short and danger-filled. You would think dying 3 weeks after attaining adulthood would be enough misfortune, but they face other perils as well. A firefly's life is not all fun and games.
Wikipedia should add a soundtrack to their entry. I suggest this one, until Fox finds a way to ban it, too.
